1. FEEDBACK. Don’t produce art or art history by making a “new” move in the game of aesthetics you learned in school. Assess the image ecology you live in and respond to it. Learn the system and counter it – make noise. Practice eco-formalism.
2. CREATE A VIRUS. How is your image going to circulate? Use the resources of the “art world” as a base of operations, but don’t remain there. Use images to build publics.
3. LOSE YOUR IDENTITY. Don’t believe that you’re a piece of property, a “gay man” or an “African American” whose “subject position” is the product of market research. Use icons opportunistically, and share them with like-minded people. Make an avatar!
4. Imagine modes of art and art history that function as political science. Stop pretending to subvert commodification by demonstrating what everyone knows – that capital is everywhere. SEIZE THE WORLD AS A READYMADE and BREAK ITS CIRCUITS.
